The North American FJ-2 / FJ-3 Fury was an American, in-flight, Cold War fighter-bomber. The prototype flight took place in 1951. Three years later, the machine entered the line in the US Navy to be withdrawn from it in 1962. In total, about 740 copies of this aircraft were built. The drive was provided by a single engine General Electric J47-GE-2 (FJ-2) turbojet or Wright J65-W-2 (FJ-3) . The plane reached the top speed of 1100 km / h, and the maximum range was up to 1600 kilometers. The on-board armament – in the FJ-2 version – consisted of four 20mm Colt Mk.12 cannons.

In the early 1950s, the US Navy aimed to introduce slanted-wing jets into the line, which could engage in equal combat with the Soviet MiG-15 machines. The North American company, which was commissioned to develop such an aircraft, relied on the general assumptions of the FJ-1, but most of all: it used a completely new engine, a new one – oblique! – the shape of the wings, richer electronics and significantly improved the aerodynamic fuselage and tail. Several variants of the FJ-2 were developed in the course of serial production. The most important of them was the FJ-3, which was powered by a completely different engine than the basic version of the FJ-2. The armed forces of the United States were the only user of the FJ-2 / FJ-3 Fury machines.
