During 1940 -1941, the Gustloff Werke at Suhl produced the Gerat 239 as a lightweight dual-purpose weapon for paratroops and mountain troops. The Gebringsflak 38 entered service in 1942 and by February 1945 only 180 were in service. It was used both as an anti-aircraft weapon and as an anti-tank weapon but the mounting was too light for the gun and accuracy suffered as a result.
